Thank you so much for the (really great) feedback. I was a bit afraid that the genderfucked sex would put everyone off the story, since (while it's common in some fandoms) I don't see it popping up much in Doctor Who!
The sex itself was fabulous, and paced extremely well (moving along with enough momentum to capture the arousal involved, but slow enough to make it feel satisfying emotionally, for both the reader and Jack and the Doctor), but the ongoing mind games the Doctor was playing with himself was riveting and done so, so well.
The Doctor's head really does start in a very, very screwed up place in the beginning of the fic.
Your choice (the Doctor's choice) of Jack to 'break in' his new body was perfect, because just as the Doctor realized, Jack would be the only person who could truly understand what he was going through, both emotionally and physically. And although it was clearly a bit hard for Jack to accept where the Doctor's mind was, it was also wonderful of him to talk about Rose while they were involved, both to ramp up the kink and to let the Doctor know that he was OK with what was going on.
I really love what Jack does in the fic to try to refocus the Doctor and, when that fails, to simply ride with him throughout the Doctor's emotional storm. He's totally a rock in this and I really love him for that.
I also loved the way you described the Doctor's experience of having sex for the first time as a woman. The fantasies aside (and I did smile at the room covered in mirrors), you captured both his desire and his hesitancy at the differences very well.
It's really a fascinating idea to me, now that I've written it -- because the Doctor has spent over nine-hundred years with a male body. And that's a long time to get used to having male bits. Being a woman is going to be very different.
I found it interesting, for example, that despite a female body, he still self-identifies as male and does not particularly enjoy going down on Jack.
The inside of the Doctor's head was a very interesting place to be in the writing of this fic. Because he does still feel male to himself, yet he's very, very aware that he looks and presents as female (and is willing to play around with that) -- and, of course, not just female in general, but Rose.
It's a realistic and interesting quirk, and it makes me wonder if he might have Jack find them a woman to have a threesome with some time in the future so he can enjoy giving oral sex again.
I definitely don't see that out of the realm of possibility for this Doctor and Jack, once everything's stopped feeling new and fragile (though, I actually see a world of potential 'ouch' for Ianto in this 'verse -- the Doctor is, possibly, the only person alive who could consume enough of Jack's attention and affection as to make any other long-term relationship untenable, particularly right now, when the Doctor needs Jack so much).
The fact that this universe is technically crack-fic makes the whole thing even more impressive -- despite the premise, this is actually a very deep, emotional story, and the ending was extremely satisfying.
Thank you very much! That's really lovely to hear.
I can definitely ship Doctor/Jack in this incarnation, and think it was very clear by the end of the story that their future together is going to ultimately involve them and not be held hostage by the ghosts of the Doctor's past. And I can totally live with that. :)
Yes. This is a 'verse where I can see Rose being in a special place in both of their hearts and yet her memory not actually, in the end, interfering with their relationship. Which is only fair, because Rose already has the other Doctor -- this one should be allowed to be happy, too.
