So, I have two Ewan McGregor movies rattling about in my head, longing to be compared. They are, of course, Moulin Rouge and Young Adam. ( Cut for spoilers for both movies )
I've been hearing a lot about 'Young Adam' recently, and having read your comparison, I'm tempted to go watch it. (It's so strange, at one stage of my life I would never have let an Ewan McGregor film pass me by!)
I'd definitely recommend it -- it's a very good movie. Very bleak and a bit graphic, but incredibly well done. The acting is, of course, superb, but the film is beautiful -- washed out colors and mists. The story's quite interesting (though, again, very bleak -- it's described as an 'amoral morality tale') and the editing is very good.
Joe was a really interesting character -- I can definitely see why Ewan was keen to play him, he's really nothing like what Ewan's been doing recently.
