Midnight Sun

a.k.a The Creepy, Obsessed, Stalker Diaries

As you probably know this is only an unfinished draft of the book. The first 12 chapters leaked on the Internet and so SMeyer threw one of the best professional tantrums I have seen in awhile:

"If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the ( Read more... )

I'm actually really surprised to see that SMeyer didn't have him mention Mr. Banner (the bio teacher) lusting after Bella. She seemed to be so proud of that little reveal.

EW. WHAT. WHAT THE. WHAT THE FUCK. REALLY? REALLY, MEYER? THERE WEREN'T ALREADY ENOUGH BOYS LUSTING AFTER HER ALL FOUR BOOKS? THERE HAS TO BE PEDOPHILIA TOO? SHE'S NOT HOTT ENOUGH YET?

Like a stalker. An obsessed stalker. An obsessed, vampire stalker.

So, we're all agreed then.

That's an actual line in the book? Really? REALLY?
Meyer totally gets how ridic. Bella/Edward is. Really, she pops in so often with ref's like that, but once they're done it's straight back to WHAT PERFECT TRUE LOVE.

Hahahah, yep.

Ahahahah, yes, that's actually a line in the book! He continually calls himself out over how fucking creepy he is, but he never stops himself. Though I really don't think SMeyer gets how ridiculous Bella/Edward are and how gross his behavior is. I really think she believes that it is incredibly romantic that a guy would be so infatuated/in love with a girl that he would go to such lengths to be near her, just to see her. She's just that insane.

OMG, more wangst. I never thought that someone could write a book of someone whining so freaking much.

*coughTheEntireTwilightSeriescough*

What? I said nothing.

Anyway, wonderful review. I personally found Edwang's emopants whining to be hilarious while reading, as well as his 'Bella is so gooodz zomg!', because she truly isn't. It's ridiculous how Smeyer can write about Mike being infatuated with a fabricated Bella, but not see what Edwang is doing himself.

That is true, though I feel like Edward whined more in these 12 chapters than Bella did the entire series. I was amazed!

Oh, trust me, aside from creeping me out the whole thing really was amusing. It's hard not to laugh at him.

So true! I thought that was so funny how he draws a distinction between this fantasy of Bella Mike has created in his head and the idea of her he has built up as being real. Which, exactly, you know is just wrong when he calls her "good" and "unselfish." HAH! I still laugh at that last one.

Hahahahaha, I know, right? I don't know, I have a pretty severe like/hate relationship with these books. They are just awful, but they also amuse me to no end!

I felt uncomfortable reading Midnight Sun. It's like reading the thoughts of a psycho stalker murderer. Although if we had gotten that point of view in Twilight, I probably would have not hated it so much. I think a whole book with just Edward's thoughts would be just as annoying as reading a book with all of Bella's. Nobody wants to read about an 108 year old emo vampire. At least nobody with half a brain.

Hm, maybe that's why The Talking Heads Psycho Killer would pop into my head periodically...

Really, it might have been okay if Twilight were a fully fleshed out idea that took more than three months. Like I said in that review, the first person narrative really doesn't work, especially in stories like these where so many people are involved. So if it was third person and included ALL of this (in a much less creepy fashion, with a love that you can believe is real), Twilight would have been much, much better.

I agree. Third person would have given each story a more rounded feel to it, even with Meyer's skills, it would have been a lot easier to read.
