My Flattened Alter Ego

Oct 12, 2008 00:40

So, I now have a second LJ. Here's the sitch:

My nephew's class is doing a Flat Stanley project, and he sent his Stanley to me.

For those not familiar with the story, Flat Stanley is a book written by Jeff Brown. Stanley's family wakes up one morning to find that his large bulletin board has fallen off the wall in the night, landing on Stanley, who ( Read more... )

Very cool!

I'd not heard of Flat Stanley before, but I'll definitely be watching the adventures. Sounds quite interesting!!

Yeah, I'd not heard of him before, either, which is weird, given that the book came out in, like, 1965 or something. And given how much I read as a kid. But it's an early reader chapter book, so I might have skipped over it (I was a fairly precocious young reader).

I forgot to mention that there'll be pictures, too. Because Stanley will of course want to take shots of himself. ;-) In the past, Flat Stanleys have been sent to and photographed with all sorts of celebrities and politicians. Yet another reason to wish the stage door wouldn't be so crowded! ;-) How much would my DW-loving nephew freak if Stanley got his photo taken with the Doctor?!

I'm already keeping my fingers crossed for you to get to the stage door in time/not be too crowded, but now I'm going to double my efforts. I would so be excited for your nephew if you got it!!

Idea!! If it doesn't work out, why not send a picture of your nephew with Stanley to DT for an autograph. I seem to recall seeing that someone sent an autograph request recently that came back relatively quickly. I almost think they sent it right to Stratford. If you like that idea as a back up plan I'd be happy to do some digging around for you.

*hugs* That is a thought, all right, but I don't think I want to risk it. Mail gets lost, I'm there only 3 weeks, etc. Besides, Stanley and I have lots of plans. ;-)

Leda asked if I wanted to surrender custody of Stanley - said she could take him to Cardiff and take shots at the DW exhibit. But that's the same dates that I'll be in Brighton, so I don't think that will happen, unless we "clone" Stanley...

Great! :-) I hope I don't disappoint!

I can't believe how much I'm looking forward to this. Stanley will be helping me prep for my UK travels, and going with me. ;-) I'm looking forward to helping my nephew learn a bit more about another country, so I'm aiming for a nice mix of fun and education.

In other news, my roommate reports that the package from the elementary school arrived yesterday. (I'm in the desert with my family, going home today.) Gosh, I hope Stanley doesn't suffocate before I get there! ;-)
