So, I now have a second LJ. Here's the sitch:
My nephew's class is doing a Flat Stanley project, and he sent his Stanley to me.
For those not familiar with the story,
Flat Stanley is a book written by Jeff Brown. Stanley's family wakes up one morning to find that his large bulletin board has fallen off the wall in the night, landing on Stanley, who as a result is now 4' tall, 1' wide, and 1/2" thick, but otherwise in perfect health. He travels to visit a friend in California via a large mailed envelope (to save money on airfare), lets his younger brother fly him as a kite, and slips into rooms through the gap under doors. He even helps capture art thieves by posing as a painting!
The
Flat Stanley Project was started as a way to encourage letter-writing and cultural exchange between school children. They send their Stanleys to each other, with the idea that "Stanley" (or his host) writes letters/journals and is mailed back with this documentation of his adventures. My nephew's class mailed theirs to friends or family members. For various reasons, I've opted for an online approach, via a journal under the name
flatstanley_29p. This LJ will be written from Stanley's point of view as he travels with me. As an aspiring YA writer, I see this not only as a chance to help out my nephew, but as a writing exercise. :-)
NOTE: I am not affiliated in any way with Dale Hubert, M.Ed; Jeff Brown; HarperCollins; Universal Studios; or Intramusic Theatricals. Flat Stanley® is a registered trademark of Jeff Brown and the Jeff Brown Estate Trust, author of the Flat Stanley® Children's Books.
NOTE 2: You are welcome to add
flatstanley_29p as a friend if you would like to receive notification when that LJ is updated. However, please understand that I will not be adding friends. The journal is intended for viewing by my 9-year-old nephew, our family, his teacher/classmates... No offense intended, but I don't want anyone stumbling into that LJ's Friends Page and seeing something that they perhaps shouldn't. :-)
Stay tuned for the further adventures of
flatstanley_29p and
butmadnnw! ;-)
