March 16 is my "abstinence date." I've now had 365 days back-to-back of real abstinence.

Since it's a little unfamiliar term (Jon's practicing abstinence? does that mean he's not getting laid anymore?) the simple analogy is: abstinence is to overeaters what sobriety is to drunks ( Read more... )

Congrats, man, you've done extremely well. Keep up the good work, and I'm still around if you ever want to chat more about this stuff, especially when you are thinking about an exercise program. At the risk of stating the obvious, I think starting very simply can work quite well like just going for moderate walks around the neighborhood and such.

yes, once my balls heal and my doc says it's okay to do so, I'm going to start with walking-smething my doctors have all said I should do first: Just Walk.

Oh, and this would be some time down the line if it ever becomes relevant to you, but here's a fun fact: if you walk or run the same distance, it burns about the same amount of calories while you're doing it. The only key difference is after: if you run or jog that distance and get your heart aerobic then you kick up your metabolism more and your body burns more calories over the next eight to twelve hours, regardless of whatever you're doing. So the net total calories burned is more if you run, but only because of the after effect.

Science is fun!

Good job! I am starting to head down the path you've been on, and it's inspiring to see that it can be done. Thank you for this!
