So back to that Art topic I was on about after watching Hero last week...

I didn't answer my own question. What modern art has inspired me? A lot of this may not survive 1,000 years, but I thought it was a good exercise anyway...

1. The plastic bag scene in American Beauty

2. Ascending and Descending by Escher

I'm limiting it to things that have touched or inspired me that were created in my lifetime.

The music video to "Everybody Hurts" by REM

The performance of Roberto Benigni in La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful)

Mystere performed at the Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas

Queen's "Save Me" and "I want to Break Free"

The musical "Rent"

For things done before my time....

Stage coach at Louveciennes by Pissarro

and

Eternal Idol by Rodin

I still need to see Rent. I love what I've heard from it.

I saw an exhibit of Rodin in Brugge, Belgium. Almost all were reproductions but it was still very cool. I got interested in Rodin when I discovered that he was the originator of the (paraphrased) "I don't carve, I just take away what wasn't supposed to be there" quote, which I've always felt was at the heart of Taoism's Uncarved Block notion.

I'm a big drums and fire kinda girl, so I'll have to check out Six Marimbas.
