My meaning on this is from direct will. Examples:
"It is silly of me to feel this way." Doesn't work. "I am going to be happy now." May work temporarily, but the core issue is not addressed. This is just another 'stuffing' maneuver with different window-dressing. "I will from now on believe that it is okay for X to happen." May work as you described if you have really gotten at the root cause, otherwise, this is a more complex version of emotion-stuffing that will result in the mood-swings I was referring to.
My emotions are directly controlled by my beliefs.I think 'indirectly controlled' is really more accurate, but I certainly agree with you on this in most cases. If my expectations are X and Y occurs, I am disappointed and possibly angry. If I reset my expectations and accept that I cannot control the outcome whether it by X or Y then I will not be so disappointed in a specific case
