My baby is allergic to formula and that damn circumcision

Went to the Nicu yesterday morning before a day of baby shopping with two of my girlfriends who decided to let me get whatever I wanted, their treat since they couldn't make my shower ( Read more... )

Gah. Maybe you can tape a sign to his bassinette saying "No formula! Breast milk only!"

And Milo's only half circumcised. :/ When I asked about it they said "oh, it's just the swelling, it'll look normal as soon as it's healed." So then come to ask the pediatrician about it when it's all healed and he's all "No, it's just trimmed, but don't worry, his wife will like it." I switched pediatricians, but the upshot was that getting him circumcised again by that point would've required general anesthetic, and since being halfway in between doesn't hurt anything, I figured it wasn't worth it.

Why is Circumcision so common across the pond? I don't understand. Here in the UK Circumcision is not terribly common. Jewish boys are done, obviously, and the occasional elective but it's not something generally offered. What are the long-term benefits then? (Apart from cleanliness and lowered risk of foreskin-related infections) (I've never seen a circumcised Penis outside of a textbook ( ... )

I am not really sure why circumcisions are so common over here. I guess it's tradition but...I feel horrible since it's such a poor excuseto have it done. And almost all the guys...that I...ahem.. have ever seen, most of them have been circumcised except for two that were from overseas! Interesting that it is the opposite in other countries.

I am almost 100% sure that Alex is allergic to formula. He hates the stuff and it made me furious that the nurse was too lazy to go to the fridge and defrost my breast milk! I did Mynuet's suggestion and I taped a breast milk only sign to his isolette and to his chart. Just like you said- Alex is a preemie so he especially needs his mommy's milk.

Thanks for the congrats. He is adorable, isn't he?? I love him so very much! Everything that seemed important to me suddenly pales in comparison to him!

I had the nurse put a huge sheet of paper on the top of his chart says - NO FORMULA!

I also found out that he always vomits everytime he is given formula. Ohhhh that makes me so mad!! There must be something in it that doesn't agree with him.

I did your suggestion too. I got a notecard and put that my son is to have breast milk only and taped it to his isolette. Hopefully the nurse can read.

I feel so bad, they fixed his poorly done circumcision. But I can't help but feel horrible for making him go through that again.
