I think I might not want to be a funeral director anymore. I'm not sure. I think maybe I want to go back to school and get a B.A. and/or a Masters. I think. *sigh* All my friends are finally graduating (Go you!) and here I am thinking of jumping back in. But I"m jut not sure I'm capable of being a funeral director. And now, whenever I try to ( Read more... )

Burnout is common in the profession. Before you make your decision, make sure it's not just a short term stress situation. Just because the industry isn't for everyone, it doesn't mean that you can't do it. There's nothing wrong if it's not for you though.

And remember, there are people besides morticians with Anubis tattoos. :)

I do'nt htink its short terms tress. Ive been thinking about this for a while, and yesterday just kind of kicked my ass all overa again (failed my law test.) Even if I do decide to switch jobs, I'm gonna get my licence. I did put in all this work, so i'm not gonna quit before i get the license. I'll take the test again, finish the last week and a half of my residency, and get it. but i'm not sure if i want to keep doing it.

I just feel like if i don't keep on, I'll look/feel like a failure for having been so bloody gung ho, and then changing my mind.

If it's any consolation, I won't think of you as a failure.

I find that a lot of people either will naturally push someone in the direction of education if the person isn't already wrapped in a "good" career or stable/fulfilling job. If the person has what other people perceive as a stable life going, then the tendency is to tell them to stay there ( ... )

Heh. The funny thing is, everyone is asking me "So what would you go to school for? Teaching?" Apparently, teaching is still the default job for unmarried women, regardless of their liking of children.

Thank you for your thoughts and advice. <3

I know how you feel--I completely do.

Could your dead-people skills get you a job that would tide you over until you move on? I know it's easy to feel trapped, but you can always walk away. It's just harder to walk away.

I think I'll be able to tide over while moving on. I just called a cemetery about a job doing reception clerking type stuff, and i can do a few toher things while i'm going back to school. I already feel much less trapped now that I made a decision and got the weight off my shoulders.

I will fully support whatever decision you make, but honestly I don't think you're just going to "skate by." Just because you're not good at ALL the aspects of being a Funeral Director doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Maybe you should go back to school and still do Funeral Directing on the side as you get another degree, and see if you still feel the same way in a few years.

Also, you should never be embarrassed about your Anubis tattoo. It represents a very long and signifigant chunk of your life, which is what you got it for. And it's beautiful. Just like your face.
