I've thought of using fine brown sugar, and I suppose it doesn't matter 'bout the colour. (Pavlova are supposed to be white, but adter adding in vanilla and all, it's a creamy pale brown, so it's fine, I guess)
Yaaaahhhhh~ I wanna send some over to you, but I've no idea if customs on both sides allow food to pass through. ._. Damn customs.
