From the vid on You Tube:
Why is bullying such an on going issue in society today? It's the people who start it but is it not the people who have the capacity to put a stop to it? By watching an act of bullying with the thought of, "i was going to step in if it kept going." you may be too late. This video opened up my eyes in ways no video has done ( Read more... )

On my way to work so I didn't have time to see the video, but... sometimes I also think people just have no idea what to do. I mean, even now, how many times will you be in some social situation and someone says something nasty to someone else, and you just... stand there awkwardly, trying to think of something to say? It's especially hard when it's in a situation where you have to interact with these people in the long term, or if it's at a work meeting or in a class where there can actually be consequences for getting too mouthy.

However, at a certain point you should still say or do something, no matter what the situation is or how old you are. Once I had a friend who was bullied incessantly by the same guys, and finally one day when I saw it for myself, I positioned myself in front of her and told the guys to go the hell away until they finally did. I think everyone has not done something when it happens because, as you say, they don't know how to act or what to say. NOt to mention, some people are wary of doing anything in fear that it may make things worse. Or, in my case at times (especially in Sweden), I have no idea what the hell is being said to properly act on it if it's verbal. If someone was being assaulted, I would alert the police to it. Then, I would try to help the victim by help defending them from their attacker (unless they had a weapon I could see) and try to help them when the attacker has left them.

Today I read a whole thing about the Bystander Effect (which I learned initially in my AP Psych class when I was a senior in high school) and made a post about it because it does tie into why there is still bullying. I found myself highly disturbed into what I read becasue there are cases where people did absolutely nothing when someone was lying on the ground and bleeding. I find that extremely disturbing.
