I loved your description of the Van Gogh's, but then i am partial.
"Yeah. I slipped into the museum to dry off for a moment. And found this lovely thing."
"That's what European travel is like," she babbles, "Some surprise around every corner. It can be rather overwhelming, really."
I love here that Rose seems to think he is talking about the paintings. Silly girl..pay attention.
I like the subtle hints of past/future lives throughout leading to the "Laura" moment. Her name acting a bit like the cylon music. Triggering the realization of shared history/future.
I could gush..but work is calling. Thanks again...I like it when akachankami has a birthday. We all get presents!

Ah, now there's a term I haven't heard in a while. That's the only tough part about writing for a show set in a tin can; you don't get to use 'sense of place' much.

I'll totally confess to Mary Sueing in up. I found the then new Van Gogh museum so moving. Sure, other museums have more 'important' paintings, but you could really feel his life in that collection, and sadly, his death.
Of course, when I got lost bicycling to some remote part with another museum, surrounded by wide open fields for miles, I really got that sense of place and doom. :-|
And if you haven't been to Arles, go. Another place to feel very close to Van Gogh.
Birthdays are the best part of LJ! :D

I could have sworn your birthday was the third and vash26 's was the 2nd, and thus I could post one part for each of your birthdays.
Lols - I had the same thing, I could have sworn you had your b-day listed as the first, but it turned out to be the 31st. I was very sure!
May 2nd, 2011: Amsterdam:
This all happened here? Yesterday? Seriously? I missed them, she could have bought those condoms in my shop? Must have been during my lunch break ;)
Amsterdam, I think you've covered pretty much everything. You had the coffee shops, the museums, the pigeons, crappy hostels, gays, canals, bicyclists, clerks adressing everyone in English, yup that about summs it up.
She shrugs. It's not that she's jaded already, but she's recited her itinerary to every American she's met.
This is so true.
"Youth hostel?" His eyebrows rise. "Do they allow anyone over..." His ( ... )

I went OMG A/R Amsterdam fic, it doesn't get any better than this!
Except the birthday girls were backward! But I couldn't flip the plot with Rome/Amsterdam, so, best laid plans and all that.
But I had to put the pharmacy in there! And your duty at the sex aides section. :D
I'm glad I gave a flavor of Amsterdam. Unfortunately, I've only been there once. I need to get back!
As someone who stays in hostels, you do get that question after you stop looking 21!
Oh, glad I got the pilot detail! I know they're being very hot and cold with American soldiers these days, pulling those who casually mention feeling a bit down (Hell, you're in a war!) while some act completely BSC and are ignored until they kill their wife and kids!
So, did it rain the whole time you were in Europe? ;)Well, the detail about traveling out of season was a Mary Sue too. I hate crowds. So I landed in Amsterdam in April one time and went to Rome in ( ... )
