I'd like an Option 3 - that it wasn't an illusion, and Fred really was locked in Illyria in some capacity, and managed to break the barrier to be there for Wesley's last moments.

Probably wishful thinking, but I'm pretty stuck on the Fred/Wes ship.

Personally, I don't think Fred was there in the sense that her consciousness / soul were there, but it seemed that Illyria did have her memories, and perhaps her feelings, so in a way, a static version of Fred was there, which Illyria could draw upon and mimic, but not understand.

I think that Wes realized it wasn't Fred, of course, but perhaps both took comfort in the memory of her in his last moments, as well as felt moved that Illyria understood him well enough and cared about him well enough to know that it would be one of the only meaningful things she could do to demonstrate her feelings, mostly inhuman as they were...

Hm. Illyria taking comfort in the memory of Fred is a nice thought. Whatever really happened in that scene, I think all must be agreed that it was a major step in Illyria's advancement toward humanity.

Not really anything to do with this - but have you been reading the comics? watching Illyria basically evolve is crazy. The one shot broke my heart as well.

Is Illyria: Haunted the mini series? I bought the first couple issues but still haven't read it. No I'm getting nervous based on your opinion. D:

At least in After the Fall she was exploding or something. It's been forever since I read the early issues. I remember thinking that the exploding into her original state could have to do with the out of characterness.
