wes/illyria scene in NFA

this is something else i've been wondering about for a good year (ever since i saw that final episode for the first time).

while browsing some fan discussion i came across somebody's post which said that the "would you like me to lie to you now" scene could have been, more than anything, a symbolic gesture. illyria was unable to to heal wes or to help him in any other way. assuming fred's image was the only thing she could for him. and for wes, this may have been the first time he realized (far too late) that illyria felt something for him ("i killed all mine, and i was..." "concerned?" "i suppose so"/"it is good that you came"); and again, to show that he had acknowledged this, wes could do nothing other than accept illyria's proposal. he may not even have wanted to see fred's image one last time before he died; it could have been more about illyria showing, in the only way she could, that she cared, and wes accepting this and showing that he cared as well.

to me, this feels more meaningful, and more moving, than if he had wanted to see the illusion of fred before he died. i have always felt that illyria's being in fred's body was an obstacle to their relationship - not only because of the intense ambivalent feelings wes (understandably) harbored for illyria, but also, most importantly, because i felt wes was chasing a phantom, even despite knowing that none of the real fred had been left and she could never return. it would have been too heartbreaking to have him die in that state of self-delusion without giving him a chance to transcend it, however momentary it might have been.

i support this. i felt like asking those of you who ship wes/illyria or are interested in their interaction, do any of you agree? does anyone think otherwise?
