I just signed up for my first session with Magical Mealtime (magicalmealtime.com). I know one of you posted about something similar called Super Suppers before. It’s this cool thing where you go online, choose several meals that you want to cook, then make an appointment to go to the place. When you get there, all your ingredients are ready to ( Read more... )

I'm LOL on the shower thing-- Kix has taken to not lovin' the shower just lately too. What is it with preteens and hygiene?

I found a workaround though -- I give her options. Instead of being all "Take a shower now" I ask her, "would you rather take a shower or a bath?" and she has to pick one... then "would you rather do it tonight or get up early and take it?" and she HAS to choose... for some reason it seems to let her feel like she has control over it or something but it completely ends any balking-- but whichever she decides on, she HAS to follow through with it... if she complains I'm like "Hey, that's what YOU decided to do, and you have to follow through now." Maybe that would work with CJ too?

Yeah, I've heard before that giving choices is a good parenting move. Doesn't really work in this case though, because she really is determined to not take that shower. She would like me to allow her to take it in the morning, but I know how slow she is so it's not an option. I did actually suggest a bath because her main excuse was a headache, but she didn't want that. Honestly, all that arguing hurt her head a lot more than a shower would have! Oh well. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Oh, BUMMER. :( Too bad. With kix the MAIN challenge is hair -- washing, brushing, etc. Because her hair is so hard to manage, so it hurts her. But I pity ya on the shower thing, and I can relate.

Soon they'll be all about the showers and prettying up and stuff, right? Right? ;)

Exactly. We'll be yelling at them to get OUT of the shower and stop running up the water bill. LOL.

But I'm pretty sure the door slamming part will only increase with age though. Boo.
