Just saw on the News that our wonderful Governor might now be delaying tax refunds to those of us who are getting a NYS tax refund this year. Of course if you owe you have to pay on time "or else" but if you're waiting for your refund you might be waiting a long time ( Read more... )

"Of course if you owe you have to pay on time "or else" but if you're waiting for your refund you might be waiting a long time."

That's what pisses me off the most about this whole ordeal. I had some IRS issues last year due to a screw-up on my part (long story short, I tried claiming some dependents that really weren't dependents and they caught on to my stupidity) and those fuckers hounded me with letters every couple of weeks until I paid them the grand I owed. But when you try to inquire about the status of a refund, you might as well ask for blood from a stone.

With all of the criticisms, I think I want to chip in.
Frankly, I support Patterson. He's not doing this because he wants to, NO politician wants to risk their electibility and popularity unless it was important. I think this budget issue is extremely important. NPR reported that if there is one more year with $8 billion in debt like we have now, the credit rating agencies will report the state of New York as less than stellar and NY would pay a lot more for increased interest rates from credit agencies and have a damaged credit rating. This would mean taxes for the people of NYState would go up even more. He is threatening to withold items that effect the everyday citizen to call attention to the fact that the New York State legislature can't and won't cut back on much of anything. If I get a delayed refund, my life is not going to be over. I'm not going to be selfish.

I don't think it's selfish for people to want the money they already over-paid to the government. A lot of us use the refund to pay bills during the harder months. If wanting to eat and keep our electric on is being selfish, well then many of us are.

This is something that should have been addressed before now, allowing people to prepare for the blow. It's not fair to just delay people, especially those who are really hard up, without advanced warning. THAT is selfish of Paterson and the NYS Gov. Many of the Dems in the political seats in the state are pissed about this too.
