the everything-is-wrong / nothing-is-wrong wave appears to be becoming pretty standard. good food has been the only invariant, an island in stormy seas. (i'm wary of it turning into a depressive indulgence - specifically, treating myself at restaurants - but that worry doesn't stand when i get around to cooking for myself.) another recipe may be ( Read more... )

look around you, food, sadness, housing

Damn. My (Lobos) apartment for next year is $750 a month. I would totally be in if I wasn't already signed off for the year. (I miss living in a house)

Upkeep on that house would require another major investment of either time or money.

actually i did get an email this evening, one involving complicated stuff about background checks and some other tenant pending. i'm too annoyed at the exorbitantly delayed response time at the moment to pay it the mind it deserves, though, so i'm just going to bed.

touring another place at 1500 tomorrow, do you want to come along?

Hm, I wouldn't say that a two-day response time is bad at all. Firstly, most "real" people check their e-mail a whole lot less often than CMU CS kids do; secondly, the landlord may have been blocked on something involving the other potential tenant.

I hate to say it, but it will be very unusual if you can rent an apartment without at least a credit check. At minimum this is like that sheet of personal data we filled out at TickyBox; it's also common to ask for contact information for your previous landlords within the last n years. Some management companies, I know, also want information about bank accounts and income. So I'm afraid you won't be able to avoid this stuff :-(

Thursdays are my crazy days, unfortunately. If I'm un-sick enough to go to campus, I'll have meetings from 12 to 1 and from 3 to 4:30.

hmm, meh. paul (my prospective housemate) was also annoyed at the radio silence, so i'm kind of nursing an "it's not just me" attitude. i suspect they were blocked on the other tenant, but it'd have helped us a lot to see "we're blocked on someone else; you're in the queue" to alleviate our anxiety.

i meant today wednesday. are you feeling any better?
