Blocking again

Looks like my start date is going to be june 8th, which means either I work for fewer than eleven weeks or everything is rushed at the end. After a burst of unexpectedly fast responses, we appear to be back to waiting on... I'm not entirely sure ( Read more... )

I often have the issue that I want to talk, but don't particularly have anything to talk about. More often, it turns into just sitting there generally enjoying each other's company and saying things whenever they occur... which usually leads into some sort of conversation.

True enough. That strategy doesn't work as well, though, when the other person is nothing more than lines of text on a screen, a reflection from seconds ago of someone hundreds of miles away. What constitutes being in somebody's company when that's all you have? It's a lot easier to define when you can look over at them sitting next to you, give them a poke or a hug without needing to say anything.

Skype? :)

I dunno. Even the feeling of having someone on the other side of an IM window can be nice sometimes.

Hullo, Mr. Beebles. Welcome preemptively to the Bay Area!

I read those series too, although I haven't been comfortable recommending them to people.

Sometimes I ask people: "What do you do?" But I think that question is too broad. Here is a better question:

Suppose, quite hypothetically, that I attempt to organize a group event for some purpose, possibly including but not limited to: cooking, board games, D&D/Paranoia, urban hike, non-urban hike, Melting Pot, mystery-hunt type thing, wireless LAN party, anime. Which sorts of events are you generally interested in attending, assuming that other variables were favorable?

Hi Dan! (In case you're not remembering, I'm bblum and we met while you were here for carn -- fuck. While you were in Pittsburgh for carnival. See that? A further testament to thing. We played UT, as I recall.) By "those series" I assume you mean Tales..? Heh, I don't have trouble recommending it, but that's also because I'd only recommend it to a select few in the first place.

I like your question :) Supposing, still quite hypothetically, that such were to occur, it would be more prudent of you to ask which of those I -wouldn't- be interested in. I'd be happy with any of those; cooking and DnD stand out the most, and I'm probably least keen on the hike options, but only because of walking a lot (I do hope to do stuff around the city while I'm there).

Er, correction: anything to do with food is a good option. I was talking with my parents about what to do in SF yesterday and realized that I need to pay another visit to The Stinking Rose.

Sure, but what is there to even ask about? I have frequently found myself making low-momentum small talk when what I really want is heavy conversation. I would think that nowhere to start entails no questions to put forward...
