Help me name my computer

My current laptop is dying a slow and painful death. It is also the last remaining PC in our household -- all of our other computers are Macs. So WoS and I made a decision that when we get our income tax refund, I am getting a MacBook ( Read more... )

I've, uh, never named any of my Macs. (Or cars, for that matter.) So, uh, I guess I'm not a good authority here....and, of course, when I hear "Cordelia," I immediately think of either Lear's third daughter or a band from Northampton, so I think I doubly fail. ;-)

That being said, I'd name it something Victorian and vaguely steampunky. Like maybe Agatha Heterodyne. But that's because I am silly.

Hey, I named mine after a character I write (see: Gilbook) but that's because he shared some pertinent qualities with the computer.

Hmm -- I'd rather not. I try to keep my profession out of my personal life as much as possible (unless it involves some obscure tax planning strategy). Besides, we already named our wireless network after a rule of civil procedure.

I have never heard of naming a computer, but what do I know about computers?

My mom named her first car "the Grey Ghost" because it kept disappearing into the auto repair shop. Name it after a local winemaker, maybe, like that nice man from Baer who so sadly left us all too early?
