Sounds like that mom is so worried she's not really hearing what you've got to say. Waiting around for a diagnosis sometimes seems worse than actually getting it.

Flavored water? I'd say pond sludge has more flavor than the stuff they try to pass off as coffee around here. It's got caffeine, yeah, but not much else.
