Random Rattlings of the Brain Pan

Ahh... sweet internet.  Turns out, John's laptop has a built-in modem.  I'm once again connected to the world.... slowly, oh so damned slowly.  And sparingly, having to wait until John went to bed.  I hope nobody tries to call me... I'll be on here all night, getting my fix!  My article is finished!  Does she (she being my editor) like it?  *shrugs ( Read more... )

One thing I miss about my undergrad is the ability to see the stars. Being a few miles north of nowhere, there are no large cities (indeed, the largest in the U.P. was about 100 miles away, and home to roughly 30,000). All I had to do was walk outside the security lights of campus and I could see all the stars I wanted. Here, it's a surprise now and then when I can see much of anything. But I think I've given up on trying. Damn light pollution indeed.

I'm glad everything sounds so cozy and home-y. I love the idea of having a devoted meditation space. My apartment is basically three rooms: bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/dining/living space. I gave up on trying to organize an extra "space" out of it. So the "Zen den"/writing room sounds fantastic.

A friend of mine has about the same living arrangement and she's really big into meditaion... and constantly frustrated by being out in the middle of her floor or in the one unoccupied corner to try and meditate. So she went out and bought one of those small circular rugs. She says, for her, it works great because she can visualize the space of the rug as being closed off so she can at least feel safe and private while meditating. I thought it was a pretty nifty idea. Just wanted to share!
