A/N: Missing reunion scene from Blood on the Scales
Written for the Cut Scene drabble challenge at
ar_drabbles The hallways cleared for them as they walked the familiar route back to their quarters. Her trembling had eased slightly as he supported her and he could feel some of his heat begin to warm her frozen form. The marines silently closed the hatch behind them, only the softest click of it locking letting them know they were now safe and alone.
He left her standing in the middle of the room to retrieve a small blanket from the chair beside his desk before quickly returning to wrap it around her shoulders and guide her to sit on the couch. Her head immediately fell against his chest as his arm settled around her waist and hugged her close.
“I thought you were dead.”
“I know.” The break in his usually husky voice betrayed the emotion he was feeling at seeing her like this.
“I never want to feel like that again, Bill.”
He didn’t talk about how this was what he was facing every day and that soon someone would be telling him about her death, that he would be facing the prospect of the rest of his life without her beside him. Instead he pulled her tighter to him and murmured promises neither of them could keep.
The comm buzzed beside them causing her to leap and clutch at the front of his uniform to make sure he was still there. He answered the call briefly before turning his attention back to her. Silently nodding her head she stood with him, knowing exactly where he had to be; words were so rarely needed between them.
“I love you.” He whispered, pulling her to him one last time and placing a chaste kiss to her hair.
“About time.” Despite the solemn task he was about to carry out, he smiled.
