I'm also in a very good mood as I finally landed some art commissions. I'm so excited! I'm finally going to make some money doing what I love. Now if only I could get paid ( Read more... )

I blame Claudia but I also blame the school system. How in the hell are you passing people that clearly don't grasp any of the material? She can't even spell her own name sometimes but let's pass her up another grade!

How many kids with learning disabilities do you think read this series and would've liked to have had a character they could relate to in terms of having an LD? 'No, it's nothing bad and it doesn't mean you're stupid if you have an LD. Don't be ashamed or embarrassed.' Instead we get stuck with the girl that will probably always blame her sister because she's 64 years old and still can't spell her name.

--EXACTLY!! the stoneybrook public school system fucking failed that kid. they should NOT have kept passing her, they should've been paying more damned attention to a kid that was obviously unable to grasp the material, as you said.

--seriously. that would've been a great message to have in these books, instead of it just looking like she's willfully stupid the majority of the time.

She should not be spelling like this at age 13 with no excuse! It would be one thing if she had a learning disability, but since her only excuse is 'Hurr de durr! Can't be a genius like mah sister!--And wasn't Claudia embarrassed about her poor spelling in a later book? There's only so long before the "It's not me, it's you" line of reasoning gets tossed out the window. I can understand how frustrating it can be if you have a sibling and that sibling is smarter than you are, better at sports or anything else, and everybody arounds you expects you to be just as good as your sibling. But this is ridiculous that Claudia's too busy blaming Janine instead of trying harder or finding out what the deal is ( ... )

Janine has the patience of a saint to put up with Claudia. I agree, how long can someone keep butting their head against the wall before they say 'Fuck it' and give up? I would love for there to be at least a fanfic where Janine tells Claudia she's done with her bad attitude ( ... )

Now I want to write a fanfic with Janine telling Claudia to fuck off. I just need some inspiration and to stop being lazy.

Thank you! Ann is just a HORRIBLE writer. She wants us to be on certain peoples side but she gives us no reason to. She wants us to hate certain characters but she makes them really likable. Janine is supposed to be a bad sister but there's never ANY evidence of this. Karen is supposed to be a cute likable kid, she's a horrible brat. Mal is supposed to be a buttmonkey loser, she's the only BSC member who's relatable. It's almost like her special talent that she can write the total opposite of what she intends.

Ann is just a HORRIBLE writer. - Your right she is a horrible writer. If she was any good and wanted us to hate the characters she hated she...could have written them that. For example if Janine's mean have her constantly make fun of how stupid she is or dresses like a drunken clown or like in this book when Claudia tells her family she cheated Janine could have laughed her and agreed with her teacher Claudia's too dumb to pass on her own but no Ann decided to show us how mean Janine is by....defending her sister, believing her sister and then taking it upon herself to talk to her principal. That bitch. I'll bet she grows up to cure Cancer or colonize Mars, maybe even Pluto.

“And I wouldn’t say that a Venn diagram with ‘Fashionable Outfits’ and ‘Preschool Show Characters’ would have an overlap. So, don’t try to feed me that bullshit that Claudia is such a fashion plate . . .” - Several years before I started reading the BSC books (I was seven; I remember it well for some reason), I wanted to wear blue pants and a green shirt (or maybe it was green pants and blue shirt; I’m not a BSC member so who really cares) and my mom kept telling me to change because the colours clashed or something, and I remember telling her that the grass and the sky don’t clash . . . so when Claudia wears a green blouse in this book to ‘represent seaweed’, I feel both vindicated and ashamed (that I ever had any thoughts like Claudia Kishi’s ( ... )
