“I’ll make you a star, kid,” he was saying. He lit a cigar and slapped me on the back. “You’ve got the face. We’ll plaster your picture in every magazine across the country.”

My face. In every magazine across the country. I heaved a big sigh.--lmao, I really can hear this part in Doug Funnie's voice.

Mal's setting up a relay that includes drinking a cup of imaginary juice so that no one chokes. I kid you not.--lol, so why didn't they just come up with something else to do instead of coming up with something as off the wall as this?

Oh, and of course she tells us all about how much the girls are superfans of the books.--Wonder how true that was and how many just read some of the books to get a feel for the character. And it's not like they could say the books are shitty or say you've never read even one page of any of the BSC books before. Maybe I'm wrong and they really were superfans of the books since the series was so huge at the time.

Think about the kids they sit for. Mal is probably right, someone would drown or end up screaming it's the wrong kind of juice or vomit.

And..well, yeah, you do have to, in a dance audition, learn some sort of combination pretty much right now. You get told it, MAYBE a bit of a demo, maybe a run-through, then you better know it. It's partially about how you dance, but more about how fast you pick up what you're taught. (I always flubbed musical theater auditions based on the dance portion--the music director of one show even admitted it and was sorry because he'd used me on another show where the chorus didn't dance. Irony, as now my voice is shot but I do ballroom competitions...) Even younger kids--I mean, Tanaquil le Clerq was accepted into the School of American Ballet at 11. But Jessi, you're no Tanaquil le Clerq.

And if Jessi's a swan maiden, presumably doing the pas de quatre....how freakin' tall is she? Because that would be really awkward with like three fifteen-year-olds and an eleven-year-old.

They wouldn't be teaching a group all the swans' roles. Usually it's a short piece, not all of it. But then again, she learned the Rose Adagio, considered to be one of the hardest female pieces in all of ballet, in just a few tries.

Which maiden role wasn't specified, but the pas de quatre ran through my mind first, but then I thought that can't be since she'd be so much smaller than the other dancers (all that are left are adults, and then her), and then I remembered this is the BSC, and we should be glad she wasn't cast as Odette and/or Odile (traditionally the same dancer, sometimes not).

Tanaquil was a freak of nature with her dance ability. She also danced far more than a couple classes a week. It's now frowned on to have kids that age dance so much, especially on pointe.

Have you seen the documentary Afternoon of a Faun? It was on Netflix, and might still be. It's worth watching a few times. It's about Tanny.

I actually have six folding chairs in my basement. My husband used to host a D&D game so we bought folding chairs and two folding tables. We now use them for holiday dinners in the basement cuz we're classy.
