Pierced ears and contacts are overrated, Mal.

Excellent snarking!

I can't fault Mallory for being so keyed up about getting pierced ears. I was exactly as big a dork as her when I was in the target audience for these books. My mom said I couldn't get my ears pierced until I was thirteen which I thought was the height of unfairness. You have no idea how excited child me was when she relented and let me get them done when I was nine. Yes, Virginia, I was that big of a dork.

I did try wearing contacts once, wearing one in one eye, but thing was my eye just kept blinking the sucker out, forcing me to crawl around on my hands and knees to find it. So after awhile, I said, "Screw it," and went back to glasses, which I don't regret. I am all about the geek chic. Glasses make anyone look hotter. I'm the one who screams in protest when the geeky girl takes off her glasses after a makeover. I'm the one going, "No, she looked so much hotter with the glasses."

What's this? Apparently, the twins have switched bracelets! Mrs. Arnold notices and makes them switch back, leading Mal to wonder how Mrs. Arnold can tell her own daughters apart.--Oh Mallory.

I don't think it was right for Claudia to get scolded. It's not like the BSC has been around the twins long enough to be able to tell them apart so it's not like Claudia knowingly sent the wrong twin to piano practice.

You'd think Mallory would know how Mrs. A can tell two kids apart when Mallory has identical TRIPLETS for brothers.

The triplets were watching a movie that the whole family had already watched the night before. It must have been a really good movie, if they're watching it on two consecutive days.-* I'm so weird, I've done this. In fact, my brother and I refer to Zapped Again! as Zapped Again and again, cause whenever we rented it, we watched it over and over. Until we got yelled at. Dunno why, we just liked the stupidity of it all.

Always pissed me off that Claudia was yelled out when the fucking Shining girls are the ones that fucked up!

Can't wait for more!

Mal would get her ears pierced, get contacts, get her hair cut and styled, pay her orthodontist not to make her get braces, and buy a nine-bedroom house for her family.

To kids that age, piercings can be a big deal, and since she's already the town's resident outcast ginger who everyone is passive-aggressive about in the looks department, who can blame her for wanting to try fitting in? I think her desire for the house is sad. It sounds like she's feeling pretty crammed in. She wants privacy more than anything.

Apparently, Mal and Vanessa haven't done this, but they HAVE tried to convince people they were French on one of their many trips to Sea City (which sounds hilarious, BTW).

A friend and I did this, only we pretended to be British, and we were, um, in high school....

When the Arnolds return, both the twins and Claudia get scolded. Claudia shouldn't have been in trouble. The Arnolds need to be goddamned parents and discipline their kids! A scolding matters nothing when the kids learn that the worst that'll happen is ( ... )

Having your ears pierced is not a requirement, nor is it the secret to being pretty, popular, or more grown up.--And unfortunately she'll find that out by the next book. I really relate to Mallory when it concerns her very low self esteem.

Contacts are a huge responsibility that someone your age probably can't handle.--I'm not so sure about that one. Mallory is pretty level headed. I think she'd be able to handle the upkeep of her contacts.

Hair styling...eh, fine, as long as you don't get too crazy.--I'd be more worried about school than anything else. And tbh I even disagree with the schools that do that. I can see youth as being a time to experiment with your look so if a person wants to dye their hair blue, more power to them. Anyway, if Mallory wants to get a hair straightener and straighten her hair every now and again, I don't see a problem with it.

Mal counters and questions what side Jessi is on--I admit some of the stuff Mallory wants is ridiculous--the nose job example from other books is another example.
