#21 Mallory and the Trouble With Twins Part 2 (Chapters 4-6)

Part 1 (Chapters 1-3)

Well, I'm back. I've been distracted with schoolwork and HetaOni (dem feels)! Also, I went to the Mall of America and got myself a Death the Kid plushie!

Anyway, let's dive in to the next set of chapters!

Chapter 4:

Looks like a Mal and Jessi babysitting chapter. I guess the handwriting is scanned into the eBook as well. I'm probably going to be the first to say this, but I find Jessi's handwriting to be pretty tolerable to read (albeit a little difficult at first). I'm probably saying this because one of my friends has similar handwriting, and I'm used to seeing it appear when we peer edit each other's essays for English.

Anyway, Mal and Jessi sat at Casa Pike, and the kids were...well-behaved? Excuse me? AND THEY WERE STUCK INSIDE, TOO? That's certainly a first. Well, apparently, everyone was keeping themselves occupied. The triplets were watching a movie that the whole family had already watched the night before. It must have been a really good movie, if they're watching it on two consecutive days. Nicky is working on a science project. Vanessa is, of course, writing poetry. Apparently the rainy weather has inspired her. Claire and Margo are upstairs playing Candy Land. Yeah, I can't see that going wrong AT ALL.

Since everyone is doing their own thing and being quiet, Mal and Jessi decide to relax in the kitchen with cups of hot cocoa. Jessi asks if they should split up and take a floor each, should an argument break out or something bad happen. Mal puts a weird amount of trust in her siblings, they finish their hot cocoa, and they move to the living room.

Jessi asks Mal what she'd do with a million dollars. Apparently, Mal would get her ears pierced, get contacts, get her hair cut and styled, pay her orthodontist not to make her get braces, and buy a nine-bedroom house for her family.

I've got a couple of things to say to you, Mal. First of all, you are ELEVEN. Having your ears pierced is not a requirement, nor is it the secret to being pretty, popular, or more grown up. Contacts are a huge responsibility that someone your age probably can't handle. Hair styling...eh, fine, as long as you don't get too crazy. You know for a fact that braces don't work that way, and the main alternative to braces is crooked teeth, which is way worse. I have no complaints about the nine-bedroom house, other than the fact that one of those is probably more than a million dollars. Maybe instead of thinking that all these things would make you feel more grown-up, you could act a little more mature?

Anyway, they discuss ear piercings and the triplets (again). Mal whines some more about how she's being treated like a baby. Jessi suggests that maybe they're not allowed to have these things for good reasons. Thank you for being a reasonable person, Jessi! Mal counters and questions what side Jessi is on. This is followed by Jessi having a wonderful little ADD moment:

Jessi smiled. "I'm just being diploma -- Hey, look! Twins!"

No, the Pikes didn't pop out two more babies (thank God). And no, the Arnolds didn't decide to come over to Casa Pike for round 2. Instead, Claire and Margo come downstairs dressed as twins. After they leave to put together more twin outfits to model, they talk about pretending to be twins. Apparently, Jessi and Becca have done so before (despite the obvious age difference, which Jessi acknowledges). Kristy and Karen, apparently, have matching outfits that they sometimes like to goof around with. Creepy. Apparently, Mal and Vanessa haven't done this, but they HAVE tried to convince people they were French on one of their many trips to Sea City (which sounds hilarious, BTW).

Claire and Margo model some more shit, and the chapter ends.

Chapter 5:

Apparently Mal had a shit time at the Arnold's, judging from the fact that she starts her journal entry with "What pains! What rotten pains!".

Mrs. Arnold answers the door, in what I assume is an outfit that's as horrifying as last time. Apparently, the kiddos have gone deaf, because she has to yell at them several times before they come downstairs. Mal actually describes their outfits, but I'm not going to because it's a waste of time. They're exactly as bad as last time.

What's this? Apparently, the twins have switched bracelets! Mrs. Arnold notices and makes them switch back, leading Mal to wonder how Mrs. Arnold can tell her own daughters apart. Well, she did give birth to them. That certainly helps. Mrs. Arnold tells her children to behave (ha!) and leaves. The twins take this as a cue to toss their bracelets aside and start speaking Simlish again. Mal reminds them that this is the real world and that they should speak English. One of the twins suggests hide-and-seek. Mal agrees, thinking that a game of hide-and-seek with two little girls that she can't tell apart won't go wrong at all.

Mal finds one twin behind a shower curtain. She asks for a snack and, of course, Mal obliges before setting off to search for the other twin. Not having any luck in the den, she comes back to the kitchen to find that the twin and her snack are gone. She then finds a twin under one of the beds, gives her a snack, and goes to search for the first one (due to hearing that, apparently, one will always try to hide again). She finds a twin behind the couch. The twin asks for a snack, but this time, Mal puts her foot DOWN. She'll be damned if she has to keep putting out juice and crackers all afternoon! First twin calls the second twin back into the living room, and from what I can tell, they seem upset that their "piss of Mal and get infinite snack plan" didn't exactly work out. By this time, Marilyn is forced to practice, and the chapter ends.

Chapter 6

A Claudia chapter! Man, I am getting fucking sick of these babysitting chapters. Apparently, the twins "triked" her, and Claudia can't spell "off." Are you fucking serious?

Anyway, it's Saturday morning and Claudia has to spend five hours watching the twins. Yay. At least the twins will be busy, as Marilyn has to go to piano practice and Carolyn has to work on a science project.

The parents leave, and Claudia tells them that she knows about their little bracelet game. Bracelet removal and Simlish ensues, natch. Claudia tells them to just go off and play while she reads her mystery book (I'm just going to assume it's Nancy Drew and move on), since she knows all about Marilyn's piano lesson and Carolyn's project. Probably not a good idea that she told them her secret.

At 11:00, "Marilyn" leaves for her piano lesson (which is at 11:30) and "Carolyn" begins working on her science project. Claudia returns to her book. At 11:30, the phone rings. It's the piano teacher, who apparently has a very "tone-deaf" twin over at the music school. Wait, the lesson is at 11:30, right? So did said twin just play one note before the teacher grew suspicious? Anyway, it seems they switched, so Carolyn went to piano practice instead of Marilyn. There's no way of switching the twins back, so it looks like Marilyn will just be missing her lesson.

Claudia goes to the kitchen, to find Marilyn reading a comic book. Claudia scolds Marilyn. She then draws a smiley face on the back of Marilyn's hand to prevent any more mix-ups that day. When Carolyn gets home, she tries to do the same thing. Since hers looks different, though, her plan doesn't work.

When the Arnolds return, both the twins and Claudia get scolded. Claudia is very apologetic about it, and even says that they don't have to pay her and that they don't have to hire anyone from the club anymore. Claud, you are so fucking lucky that Kristy isn't there right now. She'd be coming at you with a knife.

To close the chapter, Claudia makes a final declaration: "Malery, you can have the twines."

Damn, that was annoying. While I do understand that they want to look different and be treated as different people, I don't think the Arnold twins should act like hellions just to get the message across. Then again, I don't know how else they may actually be able to get through to their Froot Loop of a mother. Poor kids.

Will the twins be able to gain some independence and be able to display their individuality? Will Mal ever stop whining about getting her ears pierced? And will I ever update in a timely manner? Comment, give me feedback, and stay tuned to find out!

arnold twins, spelling, #21 mallory and the trouble with twins, mallory is annoying, pikes
