WOO! Charlie kicks serious ass in this book. I don't think I ever read this one, or if I did it was a LONG time ago and I don't remember. But seriously, way to go Charlie for saying what needs to be said. When I was ten my dad got remarried and didn't invite me to the wedding. I still don't know why, because my sister went. But I've never quite gotten over the snub. I feel for DM here, but on the other hand I ended up hating my stepmonster with a fiery passion so if I could go back in time I would choose not to go to the wedding anyway.
Excellent snark! I really liked how they made the kids' feelings about Patrick realistic. I think if this book had been in the original series, they would have tried to sugarcoat the kids' resentment.
I just think Patrick is so jerky in this book. He can't even bother to pick up his children from the airport? And why did Elizabeth agree to this arrangement, too?
Side note: Patrick and Zoey must be loaded if they're living out in San Francisco in a six-bedroom home in/just outside San Francisco.
Sausalito is even more expensive than San Francisco, and if you've got a large house there, you are incredibly loaded. 8-bedroom houses (offices count as bedrooms for real estate purposes) are incredibly rare anywhere. Realistically he's going to be at least as loaded as Watson

Might be off base here because I'm in a Flowers in the Attic mood since the Lifetime movie is premiering this week. Anyway, I don't want to give any major book spoilers so I'll give a brief description that ties into the Patrick/David Michael stuff. Didn't it get to a point Corrine (the mom) didn't even look at the two younger kids or have anything to do with them during the times she visited the attic? Like she'd do most of her interaction with Cathy and Chris. I'm getting those same vibes from Patrick/DM. You don't exist if I don't have to look at you or talk to you.
At the end of the meal, Charlie says again that he’s not going and Elizabeth emotionally blackmails him by saying that if he doesn’t go, Sam and Kristy can’t either.--So fucked up. I get Charlie here. I get why he doesn't want to go. And it's not like he doesn't want to go for some stupid reason. I wouldn't want to go either if I went through one of my parents abandoning me.
Charlie is pretty mature, even in the regular series. If I were Elizabeth, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting Kristy and Sam go without Charlie. It's not just the couple years, but the maturity this guy has.
Adopting another baby? When did they adopt one before? All I recall is them mail-ordering a Vietnamese kid.
Because of this book, I've wondered if DM isn't the result of an affair, and if that's not why Patrick left. That still wouldn't excuse him ignoring the other kids, and legally he'd still be the presumed father of DM anyway until a DNA test proved otherwise. Why else walk out so suddenly and then ignore the baby who was just born?
Zoey is a moron. Who on earth would marry a paramecium who ignores his kids?
Charlie rules, and Patrick is the one who is out of line trying to reprimand a son he has ignored for several years. Pat should be groveling and begging forgiveness, not overlooking his abhorrent behavior.
Late reply, but my personal headcanon is that Elizabeth oopsed Patrick in the hopes that having another baby would help hold their marriage together, and Patrick resented it.
I love this snark! I never got into the Friends Forever series, but I love the idea of tackling the Thomas/Patrick issue, as I always HATED how the BSC series always made it sound so off hand, like, Dad left, oh well, we moved on! In reality, that causes SEVERE emotional scars. I also like how the characters seem to have multi faceted emotions as well.
Kristy admits that she used to be jealous that Charlie had all of those memories with Patrick that she didn’t have, but now she’s starting to see the benefits of not having remembered. This kills me, as my husband is from a family of four; he is the youngest, with his two oldest siblings being much older and his other sibling only being about 18 months older than him. His dad was a major alcoholic who went downhill shortly before he was born. His two oldest sisters remember their dad before the disease took over, but he and his slightly older sister only remember the bad times. I always ponder who got off better with that. My parents may have had their issues, but I cant imagine
