Sorry I haven't been snarking. I kind of am low on money right now and can't buy my monthly book haul (which would have included 2 Karens and 2 BSCs this month). But I have a book lying around I planned on snarking. So let's do it!

2 things before I go into the snark!:
I mention my soulbonds a lot and a lot of people are like "What the heck are ( Read more... )

Lisa tells her that she sure as hell better be responsible with a doll this costly
Of COURSE Karen gets to demand an expensive-ass souvenir from what appear to be little-house grandparents. I'm surprised she didn't demand one for each house.

She even has to make a goddamn speech, and then mentions Pamela is jealous that everyone's crowding around her.
Leslie thinks if they don't sign Karen's specific card, Nancy will feel bad.
So while Nancy's so-called best friend was making this about taking attention away from Pamela, one of her so-called best enemies was thinking of Nancy and what she might want. I think Nancy should be friends with Leslie instead.

Wow, Karen is the absolute last character I ever thought I'd step up to defend, but I gotta say, I think her doll issues are much more indicative of being a normal kid than being her usual noxious self.

I dunno, maybe I take a more Velveteen Rabbit view of toys. Yeah, the doll is an expensive toy, but it's still a toy, and Karen is a child. You shouldn't expect her to treat it like an adult with an expensive collector's item for display; she's going to play with it and want to take it everywhere. "If you take it with you you'll be more likely to lose it" is what mom or dad says, but the kid always feels better if it's there with them (and then awful when they lose it). :P

I also take a Velveteen Rabbit approach with dolls. More accurately, I view dolls in the way I view AIs or androids, except the AI is powered by a special area of your own consciousness I like to call "the doll consciousness" (e.g. Karen's doll consciousness speaks to her through Goosie/Moosie).
