Ah, the smoking subplot. Obvious ploy for AMM to stand on her soapbox.

THIS. Ugh, it bugged me so much. Mainly that Buddy and Lindsey were written saying shit like "they make it look cool on TV!" and other things KIDS WOULD NEVER SAY. I swear AMM and the ghosties have never talked to children, ever.

This and gun control...ugh. (The thing is I actually agree with AMM that gun control is a positive thing. I just hate that she inserted it into a LS book, albeit very briefly.)

Yeah, I agree with AMM that kids shouldn't be smoking and gun control is important. But where are these kids watching TV with smoking on it anyway? Even in the 60s they didn't do it deliberately - there is a famous commercial of Fred and Barney from The Flintstones smoking, but apparently the producers of that show were basically all "oh shit" when they realized that kids watched the show. (It was originally intended for adults.) Were they watching late night television?

Doing bad things is bad. Don't blame television for it.

Also a good point. But as a kid, my dad, an actual legitimate role model, smoked. I never did. Ultimately, if your kids are doing shit they shouldn't be doing and KNOW they shouldn't be doing it, allowing TV to be the scapegoat is crappy parenting. Ground their asses and tell them if they do it again you're taking out their XBox with a sledgehammer.

All this talk of smoking just makes me want a cigarette. When I was three I used to steal them from my grandma and eat them. It was the start of my eating weird/poisonous things. I don't know why I'm still alive.

What book went on about gun control?

Since when do sheltered eight-year-olds smoke?!
