Recap of #1 Kristy's Great Idea!

Inspired somewhat by the rest of you and by the 1bruce1 community, I have had a go at a recap. I've only gone up to chapter 4, so I'll do the next 4 chapters later! It's not as good as the rest of you, but I tried!

First of all, let’s take a look at the cover. I am a British fan, so we had different covers to you and this is my first time at seeing ( Read more... )

Are you looking at the new cover? The original Kristy was pretty femme, actually. And really cute. They were ALL cute on that cover, and looked like actual children.

They did look 12 on the original cover. Kristy was wearing a dress, but I think she did in the early books. In #2 Claudia describes MA and Kristy as wearing little girl clothes - kilts and plain skirts. It's not until #11 where Kristy says she's been wearing jeans, sweater, turtleneck everyday since 8th grade started.

And MA on the new covers. Hodges has given her the requisite braids, but why does he insist on putting her in such short skirts. If Richard insists on braids everyday, he's not going to allow skirts that short.

Maybe she's outgrown the skirts and Richard's too cheap to get her new ones?

How DOES the Kristy/MA flashlight code work, anyways?

I've wondered that too! Even if you assume that they had a sign for every letter, it would take so long to spell out "Hi, how are you" or "Hey, I had an idea for a baby-sitting club." I don't see how they don't lose track of the message after the first five or so letters. And how come Richard never noticed the weird flashes of light, anyway?

“Claudia!” I gasped. “Your face! You look like” - I couldn’t stop myself in time - “you got made up for the circus. … I mean … it’s so colorful. …”

I always interpreted this (even back in 5th grade when I started reading the books) was that Claudia did a crap job at applying her makeup.

I mean, THIS is "made up for the circus":
