Inspired somewhat by the rest of you and by the 1bruce1 community, I have had a go at a recap. I've only gone up to chapter 4, so I'll do the next 4 chapters later! It's not as good as the rest of you, but I tried!

“Claudia!” I gasped. “Your face! You look like” - I couldn’t stop myself in time - “you got made up for the circus. … I mean … it’s so colorful. …”

I always interpreted this (even back in 5th grade when I started reading the books) was that Claudia did a crap job at applying her makeup.
