#10 Logan Likes Mary Anne!

I should be busy at work, however I am taking a break because my head hurts. I've been bitten by the snarking bug again, because it's fun. Even though I am not all that good. So, this time, I thought we'd take a look at a classic BSC book - Logan Likes Mary Anne! A milestone for three reasons:

1) We meet a new character
2) We meet Tigger
3) They begin ( Read more... )

I remember reading this for the first time (at age 10-ish) and laughing hysterically for about ten minutes because MA said that "it's nice to know boys aren't aliens from the planet Snorzak or something." I was easily amused. Still, I was oddly fond of this book. :)

Ooooh! That looks awesome! I always thought a popsicle was an ice-pole, but it's actually a lolly.

Now everything actually makes sense now! I've been puzzling for years over chocolate popsicles thinking 'how is chocolate ice possible?'

I don't know exactly what an ice-pole is but these are also Popsicles: http://footprintsontheceiling.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/popsicle.jpg And they do make chocolate Popsicles which are just like the fruit ones more or less. A different consistency to the Good Humor/chocolate eclair bar which is somewhere between a Popsicle and an Eskimo pie.

The Eskimo Pie reference, made by Clare when she recites a poem she wrote in one book is now making sense!

For years, I assumed popsicles were ice poles, which are basically thin poles of flavoured ice. But nope, popsicles are lollies and everything makes sense now.

Hurrah!

Thank you.

That gum thing is gross. And they use it to get around the no scotch tape rule, but honestly, if the school has a problem with scotch tape, are they really going to be ok with scraping wads of chewed gum off the locker walls at the end of the year?

And yes, chocolate eclair popsicles are the best things ever.

C’mon on laydees and gents, did anyone else want that skirt? It’s the all time top piece of BSC clothing.

My Barbie had something like that. A white, flared-out skirt covered in pictres of beach stuff (sunglasses, beach balls, seashells, etc). And all the decoration was done in the wonderful shades of purple, hot pink, and bright yellow! Claudia so would have rocked that with a purple tank top and bright pink high-tops. And don't forget the earrings shaped like sunglasses!

LOL, I had a Skipper* doll that had a big poofy skirt with glittery pink floral decorations, and I always pictured the Famous Cities skirt like that, even though I realize it probably wasn't.

*I feel in light of all the chatter about "filling out" tops and excitement about bras in the early books, I should note this was one of the newly revamped "Teen Skipper" models of the late 80s, who had little boobs (and a boyfriend!) instead of a totally flat chest like the early 80s Skippers. The most Judy Blume moment of my life was probably when my friend and I first got those Teen Skippers and discussed how it meant she must be "more grown-up" than our other Skippers.

Then she sulks about not being thirteen for several more weeks.

And then she sulks about not being fourteen for several more years.
