But then who would watch my TV?

Oct 05, 2006 12:53

Y'all, I have too much good TV to watch. Heroes, Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, SPN, and BSG, and The Office if I decide I can't wait till the DVDs come out, and that is just… that is a lot of TV, yo. Maybe Heroes will start sucking so that I can abandon it. Hee ( Read more... )

I have yet to see a single part of him that is not ridiculously hot. It is unfair.

That is the only scene that I can say with certainty I will never watch again. Hell, I didn't even watch it the first time. Heh.

Kripke really doesn't seem all that deep. I mean, I love the guy--he gave us the car and the music and the concept and the BOYS, and he gave us a hell of a script last week, too, but yeah. After what Singer said at the Paley Festival, I'm incredibly glad he (Singer) is there. But it's possible, with the amount of research the writers are doing (at least according to Jared and Jensen), that Kripke's picking up on some other archetypal stories besides just the Joseph Campbell stuff, and that would be so cool. I'm going to remain skeptical, though, and just enjoy the meta. ;) And the fic.

They also lend some actual emotional depth to the show, which is kind of surprising for a comedy like this, and it's a great touch.

It does give the show lovely resonance, not only for the romance, but because I think the romance is shorthand for Pam settling for things in her life (Roy, being a receptionist) and Jim staying in a job that does not in any way match his potential, and I think that while most of the inmates of Dunder Mifflin work there because they're a freakshow, there's a story, in Pam and Jim, about making career tradeoffs and settling for comfort and familiarity and being afraid to reach for the skies.

Having seen Season 2 now (this show is so hard to put down!), I can say, hopefully without being spoilery, that the other characters fill out and start having emotional arcs too, and that's pretty neat. And oh, man, the Season 2 finale was heartbreaking. Gah.

But... but... I was almost caught up to you! GEEZ! (Says the person who watched all of S1 in one night.) Excellent point about Pam and Jim, and what they might represent. Not that I know anything about that. ;)

That finale was heartbreaking, and extremely well-done. I don't want to be spoilery, but yeah. Even without having seen the rest of the show, it floored me.

So this puts me in the position of having so much stuff to post about that it feels overwhelming just thinking about it.

OMG. I thought it was just me! It's insane, right, to be obsessing over the fact that you don't have enough time in the day to post about TV shows?

HEE. Yeah, and it's not like the world will stop turning without my incisive OMG PAM/JIM, or whatever, but still. It's nice to actually have brainspace available to process some of these things, instead of just spending all my free time sprinting through them.

Considering that all I do is (alternately) cringe and drool during SPN, the goofy plots are fine with me. And they're not really all goofy, are they? I thought the season premiere was very good. (Unfortunately, I'm beholden to the internet for all my television needs. I'm living in Austria, and I don't even have a TV. Woe be I.)

And has Kim Manners always been working on the show? He used to work on the X-Files (my original fandom). I only just now noticed him in the credits.

Yeah, I loved the season premiere--that, taken in conjunction with "Salvation" and "Devil's Trap," was some quality TV, in my opinion. (However, I am also aware I've lost all objectivity when it comes to this show. ;) ) But, while I think they generally do an excellent job with character (and that's why I keep watching), I certainly have fairly low expectations as far as the overarching plot is concerned, and I kind of don't want to be raising my expectations if that's not warranted, you know ( ... )
