I'm totally dragging you to a baseball game again this season, too. I was actually just thinking earlier that we should try to catch a Padres game, since one of my favorite players is now with the Padres.
Oh yes! We get the great pleasure of seeing them every single year, because we're "natural rivals." Because, you know, we're both on the West Coast, and we're both really far from each other otherwise. What could be more natural than that?
I dub it: The Rivalry of the Leftovers.
(And it's frustrating that the Padres tend to beat our asses no matter how badly they [the Padres, not our asses] suck, but hey. Life is funny that way.)
Yeah, but Keith was there for at least one of his HRs. So Keith just happened to be at an interleague road game? Not impossible, but it's stretching a little.
Some pitchers are great hitters (Mike Hampton, for example, who hits a lot of HRs, even outside Colorado), but yeah, it's certainly not the norm.
There *are* a lot of California teams in both leagues. Angels, Padres, Giants, Dodgers, As... Arizona is probably within driving distance too.
Depends on where the Sharks fit into things. I'm guessing they're a competitive AL West expansion team. Cook started his career with the Padres and then finished the last few years with the Sharks. Keith would've been a Padres fan for most of his life and then started following the Sharks once they were created.

And you figure that an AL West team is going to play an NL West team in interleague play, depending on the whole "natural rival" thing (like, you know, the M's storied rivalry with the Padres *eye-roll*). But still, the chances of Keith happening to be at that particular game if it was a road game, and considering you only have a few interleague series a year? Pretty slim

You know he's been jealous of Logan getting it on with Kendall, and it's just that much more priceless that Beaver is clearly aware of that, and uses it against him. AWESOME.
I think one of the things I really like about the show in general is that the outsider characters--from Veronica on down--are often able to use their outside-looking-in positions to their advantage, to observe and act. It's classic nerd revenge fantasy, but it's very satisfying.
And yet Keith is able to separate that betrayal from the much bigger sin of murder, and Colantoni sold the hell out of that, and it's still kind of giving me chills today.
That was excellent. I think one of the things that really gets me about Keith is that--because of both his job and his life experience, he doesn't really expect anything to turn out well, or anybody else to do the right thing. So he had his sports hero worship, but when it was upended, there was a hint of "why am I even surprised?" about his manner that really got to me

Right. And I think that's why his and Veronica's betrayals of each other have hit so hard... they each have believed that the other is the only person they can trust, and they've both been disappointed. Pretty grim, but fitting, considering the environment they're living in and their own stubbornness and determination to get to the bottom of things no matter the cost.
I can't get the window to load.
I know. Never underestimate LJers' desire to talk about themselves, and have others talk about them. :D
What I loved about Jackie's semi-redemption was how it remained in character: she considers herself a bitch, and she's going to spite the school's opinion of her despite the cost. So the audience empathizes with her much more, but the avenue for continued Jackie-complications remains open.
I really enjoyed the Hannah/Logan setup. This is the evil-with-a-cause Logan that I adore. The show impressively coupled a superficially sappy, puppy-dog teen romance with this sense of creepy impending doom, right up to Logan's shit-eating grin and wave to Pops. Brutal.
Finally, someone went crazy with the clippers on that set. Weevil and Logan need to grow their hair back LIEK NOW.
