Of villains, heroines, and punks

UM. One of my teammates has a Joker action figure at his desk, and I was looking at it today, and I noticed that IT COMES WITH A CROWBAR. A CROWBAR. THAT IS SO FUCKED UP. (For those of you who aren't into comics, the Joker's most notorious use of a crowbar--AFAIK--was when he killed Jason Todd, the second Robin. So this action figure comes with a ( Read more... )

ahahahahaha PENCY. I enjoy the screaming quite a bit, actually, but I think I'm in the minority on that one? He's better than a LOT of the punk boys, in that he pulls back and actually sings for most of it.

In connection of points 2 & 3, now that you know the songs: I would like to find someone to vid Alias Sydney/Vaughn/ Will to "I Never Told You What I Do For A Living" (off "Three Cheers", which, STILL my favorite album)

I think my thing with the screaming is that it puts everything on one level, so after a while it's hard for me not to tune it out, especially because it's hard to understand the lyrics anyway. Or maybe I'm just not that angry. Or maybe I'm just old. HEE. You're right, though, he does a lot of singing (the first song I listened to was "Attention Reader," so that skewed my perception a little, plus the YT video of "I Am a Graveyard" you sent me, in which, INTERESTING MICROPHONE TECHNIQUE, THERE, BABY!FRANKIE), which is nice! But they're good, especially for a baby band; you can definitely see the potential there. (And you're right, the "tell me you love me... CRAWL!" is NGGGGGGGGH.)

I would like to find someone to vid Alias Sydney/Vaughn/ Will to "I Never Told You What I Do For A Living"AHAHAHAHA. Wow. Yes. Though it would have to be some sort of dark Alias AU kind of thing? Which would be kind of awesome. Oooh, I would really like to see that. I could also see an Aeryn Sun vid to that song, or even Durham County, for the REALLY dark ( ... )

I think the screaming is something you either develop an ear for, or it just never works? I have PLENTY of vitriol to spare - the right song at the right moment can feel like walking around with a personal shield, like their anger makes me invincible (though I won't try to pimp you on The Used next time they pass through :D ( ... )

the right song at the right moment can feel like walking around with a personal shield, like their anger makes me invincible YESSSSSS, totally, I totally agree. It's just mostly Headstones songs for me, or (earlier) MCR, for that matter. :) I've been thinking a lot lately about how one of the reasons I gravitate toward rock music so much is that it CAN be an outlet for those really intense emotions; I'm a fairly inhibited person (and relatively happy, but still, I have my share of vitriol too), so having a key to unlock that in a healthy way is pretty awesome ( ... )

Oh my, isn't this a FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC fandom?

I'm guessing you've seen brooklinegirl's grea rec's, right? It is in three parts -
For beginning readers, a second list, and finally an "advanced" list of rec.

So much awesome fic, is what I'm sayin'. :D :D :D

Oooh, thank you! Man, there's SO MUCH STUFF. I will NEVER CATCH UP. (Though actually I'm not really in a MUST HAVE FIC place yet, oddly enough. Which is my cue to start feeling that way in 3, 2, 1... HEE.)

Ugh. Brynn. I feel like the people who made this statue (+ other people who want to make a lot of crowbar jokes because there are lots of them) couldn't have actually read Death in the Family. Because there is actually nothing funny about that shit. Like... At all.

Pencey Prep! My playcount on them is kind of embarrassing, lol. I do really love most of their songs though. LOL if you think the screaming for Pencey Prep is a lot to deal with, don't try out Leathermouth. :P

Fav Pencey songs: Eighth Grade (hands down favorite), Attention Reader and 19.

I think I love Eighth Grade so much because of the very personal message and meaning behind the song. I also love punk/hardcore so I think that helps for me. ^^

Ha, yes, I hear that about Leathermouth. Ah well. Fortunately there are many flavors of ice cream here for me to enjoy! And I do like Pencey, actually, better than I thought I would. Eighth Grade is just, aww, Frankie. *smishes him so much* He has ALL THE FEELINGS, I LOVE THAT SO MUCH.

Pencey is just so low-fi and there is so much HEART in it. I think that is what I appreciate most; that you can tell the music was made for the love of it, and not any other reason. Same with MCR's first album, actually.

I am fairly certain my reaction to Leathermouth isn't supposed to be HYSTERICAL LAUGHTER? Awwwww. Look at all his tiny little RAGE! *pets him*

I think my love of Eighth Grade comes from that amazing little Scarlet O'Hara "I will never be a victim again" moment at the end. It's just, YEAH! FRANKIE! It's powerful. He's the most amazingly tough, tiny, pretty little badass!
