Sudden random explosion of Shakespeare glee and geekery!

This morning in the car, the line "I know you of old" popped into my head, and I couldn't remember where it was from, and then I realized it was Much Ado. And there is Slings and Arrows talk going around my flist right now, in one of those happy coincidences of fandom, and-in addition to getting ridiculously excited about the S&A panel at bitchinparty, even ( Read more... )

wtf dreams, slings and arrows, words words words

Heeee. Point taken! (Though nowhere near YOU in England. But still!)

I have been to the Globe in London, and to Stratford-on-Avon, but never seen a show in either place (I was out of season). It's very sad! I did see Richard III at the Savoy in London, though, by the RSC. That was excellent.

OMG, the TEMPEST!!! and TWELFTH NIGHT!!! you don't really know me at all, but may i come with you to bard on the beach? \shakespeare/

ashland is well worth it, BTW, if nothing else than for the fact that it is a TOWN FULL OF GREAT FOOD. apparently, shakespeare lovers like nice restaurants. go figure...

and surely there IS a job that involves doing nothing but traveling from one shakespeare festival to the next? otherwise known as 'theater critic,' maybe???

Yes, let's go! And I will TOTALLY know you after the con, anyway. ;)

I really really want to get to Ashland at some point. I am kicking myself for not going on the theatre-organized trips there when I was a college student--that would've been so much cheaper! But I always had other things to do over spring break. /o\ I will get there, though, I just want to wait till they're doing shows I'm excited about. :) (I want them to do the Henry IVs again. I adore those plays and I've never seen them performed! I feel so deprived!)

And theatre critic would be kinda fun, though I would not want to lose my squee in the process. :) Dramaturg is my dream job, but not remotely practical. Sigh. *returns to happy contemplation of Bard on the Beach*

i have such a crush on prince hal.

OH MY GOD, so do I! He's such an amazing character, and I am such a sucker for boy-becoming-a-man stories. LOVE.

Fangirl trek to Ashland sounds fantastic! I'm totally there!

Dude, the Stratford tickets might be expensive but OH SO WORTH IT. I've managed to swing going 5 times in that past 8 years, and I don't think I've ever been disappointed by a single production. 100% PURE AWESOMESAUCE. (Yes, I am biased because that was the first real non-musical theater I'd ever seen and it made me fall madly in love, but I don't care. MAGIC.)

ETA: And I got distracted by my Stratford! *flails!* dance, but Twelfth Night!! That is my play!! It made me become an English major! So much awesome contained in one post I can hardly stand it! \0/

Made fun of the tourasses plenty, though. *eg*

Hee. I just might. The BFF went to Lear without me last year and I was rather put out. I could easily go . . . all I'd need to do is buy tickets and go stay at home. :P

OMG NO! I didn't even check the cast lists. (Anyone else we know?) That's so damn cool! Though I'm trying to picture him as Polonius and it's kind of breaking my brain. He's too young for Polonius! Still. Yay, Geraint Wyn Davies!

Yay Shakespeare!

And yeah, I'm in DC and never really remember to go to the Folger which is foolish of me.

Although they have a MacBeth soon! With magicians! And I have to not forget that this time.

I know, I am actually an enormous loser about going to shows in my own city. Which is so stupid, because there's great theatre here. And I always think it's so expensive, but I spend just as much money on far lamer things all the time. Maybe we could make a joint resolution to do better! :)
