This is me ranting about something that I think it simply getting a little ridiculous. I tend to be a moderate--neither extremely liberal or conservative--though I do side with the extremes occasionally. Well, consumer demand isn't the only thing fueling lending to non-credit-worthy people. This society has always been driven by the idea of imitating the social class above your own--and if you're among the super-rich, you just compete with your peers in spending (e.g., making sure your yacht is at least 50 feet longer than the next person's). And, of course, since anyone having anything to sell benefits from that drive, it's instilled over and over again in our media environment. The automobile was once considered an upper-class luxury until people started seeing automobiles in papers, magazines, and TVs and thinking that image of the person in the driver's seat should be themWe also have all of these myths, about the rich deserving their riches and the poor being poor because they're less capable--by inference, either less intelligent or less motivated. So if you spend above your means, you look smarter to some people (as long as they don't know it's above your means), even though cautious spending is really a lot smarter ( ... )

I haven't been bailed out either. But, I took advantage of their greed and got what I wanted. Within my price range. Unfortunately, I was one of those responsible people. Then again, I got myself into a mess of trouble with the whole interest thing which I can't do anything about for a while because my credit went into the tank ( ... )
