I hate confrontations. Always have. I go out of my way to avoid them, I engage in passive/agressive behaviors rather than face a person down. The agonies my cartoon characters endure are a reflection of my own internal arguements and avoidance. Today, I've been as antsy as all get-out. The kicker is that I'm actually RESOLVING issues, no one's ( Read more... )

You make several valid points.

In an ideal world, I'd imagine the insurance company would look at the contractor's figures, say, "That seems reasonable; we'll cover it." Since we don't live in an ideal world, I expected the two figures to be a few hundred dollars off. However, nearly EVERY contractor who looked at the insurer's numbers told me that my carrier habitually bid low on every item mentioned. How nice to know that, had I gone with Company B, I'd have to shell out less on a covered repair.

Hang in there, and sweat this no more than you have to ... follow the best advice you can, but do it your way. Trust that the gods are watching and, in the end, you and the roof and Nap will all be fine.

Go find some chocolate cake ...

I'm not worried about the roof getting repaired, I'm concerned about things like the clowns re-shingling the roof in the rain, trapping water between the shingles and the deck; loosing our electricity and cable as the service line that brushes the garage roof is severed; finding that roofing nails left in the driveway have punctured our tires; discovering that the dumpster parked in the driveway as wrecked the already aged asphalt. You know...little things.

I haven't even been able to work up a decent fantasy about the urbane, Bearish homeowner encountering a burly, hairy roofer in need of assistance. Obviously, I'm pre-occupied, and my priorities are COMPLETELY out of whack.

Oh, hon, you definitely need to get those priorities back into whack.

... at the very least, I expect a really hawt story out of all this ;0)
