Considering that the cost of per 9,000 miles maintainance is usually around $150-200, it is really not expensive for your case if you haven't brought the car to the dealer for over a year. Besides, it is better get those things found and fix before the bad snowy winter comes. Good luck!
The most maintenance I've been doing on this car has been taking it to JiffyLube for oil changes and the like. I feel I've been getting off cheaply, so far.
I'm fortunate to live close enough to work that biking is a viable option. My partner won't like it, but it'll save him driving my sorry butt to and fro.
Sounds like a good idea, but fortunately, I have a credit card with a balance I've nearly paid off and a credit limit that can handle this expense. I got it covered.
The part of the story that made me sit up with anxiety was the specific list of necessary repairs - and how lucky you were that they caught this stuff before you got into an accident at some point down the road. Actually I'm relieved now (and Nap being the wise person he is, he'll be too) ... the car with all its parts is replaceable - you're not. Hugs!
One of the first things the service manager told me when he called to inform me of the additional repairs was that the car was not "road safe". If either of the tie bars had broken, I'd have lost steering control; a broken rear spring could've shredded my tire.
Nap is not happy. Aside from the expense, I'm sure he's convinced I've been driving like a mad man, jumping school busses and leaping canyons. I have no explanation as to how the rear springs, which are big puppies, would've received enough wear and tear as to break, or what would've caused the tie bars to become so loose. He has little to no faith in my driving abilities. However, as a teenager, my grandmother preferred riding with me rather than having my brother or sister drive. More recently, one of the members of PHMC, a cab driver, complimented me on my safe driving techniques as he rode with me to the spring retreat.
Maybe I have an alternate personality who is a safety-conscious stunt driver who's tearing my car to bits.
Or maybe Nap is taking it out in the middle of the night joy-riding and seeing if he can drive you crazy! (I've been watching way too many Lifetime movies lately.)

There are times I wish I'd never learned how to drive.
