Trolling for info... Fraudirector may have input for me.

When slvr_starre and I bought our house a year and a half ago, we pinged our credit reports and found some accounts listed on them that were nominally open (or at least listed as such), but hadn't had any activity in years ( Read more... )

mdsteele47 and I are about to do just this - close out some accounts that are at zero balance and haven't been used in years. When we bought our house four years ago, I discovered the same thing - there were accounts on there that I'd forgotten I had. It just sort of seems logical - to close them out if they're not being used. Although I've also heard that it's good to keep a certain amount of credit open... it's all crazy.

By the way, I found that I had three Discover card accounts, and I've only ever had one card. I also found that while I lived in Philadelphia, an alternate address was listed on my account for about two months, at an address in Bryn Mawr (which is a suburb of Philly that I never lived in). I called Discover about it, and they didn't seem terribly concerned- which I find kind of odd and disturbing.

There are two things listed on my credit that actually belong to my Father. I'm a junior. Nothing bad, just information, but it's still annoying when they screw up the ssn or birthdate like that.

absolutely get them taken off - part of the credit score is about the number of accounts open.
