DC Comics: eliminating non-buyer's remorse.

Jun 07, 2010 12:31

I have been eye-crossingly enraged by DC "Senior Story Editor"* Ian Sattler's comments at Heroes Con, yesterday, the sheer stupidity of which keeps on enfolding like an enormous corpse-flower. Specifically, Sattler said:A serious topic came up about how characters who are minorities who happened to be legacy characters like Ryan Choi are killed ( Read more... )

Their shining example of doing it right is GREAT TEN?!!

Remind me why I give these people money, again?

I KNOW. THE GREAT TEN.

THE GREAT TEN.

I'm.

No.

Is your icon of Renee Montoya? It is snazzy!

It is! Renee is the greatest. (And I am so, so worried about her, given the current state of affairs at DC...)

I don't. At least not anymore, since they canceled Blue Beetle.

Even more boggling since the Great Ten mini-series they're citing? Was cut from its initial 10 issues down to 9. Now maybe they figured how to tell a story in a shorter amount... but I doubt it.

I was at that particular panel at Heroes Con and Ian Sattler just didn't get it. He just couldn't see how any of the Brightest Day stuff could be seen as problematic at all. He wasn't flip about answering the question, which I'll give him a little credit for, but still... it wasn't pretty.

You're the second person I've seen saying “I was at the panel, and it was worse than newsarama tells.” Are there any con reports or anything? Were people trying to push him to cluefullness?

I'll keep an eye out. I just came home this morning so I haven't had a chance to type up my thoughts yet. Newsarama & CBR weren't really covering Heroes the way they did other cons -- at least by the people commenting on our livetweets on Twitter.

Oh god. Oh god. I don't even--sometimes a comment is so stupid you just don't know where to start. And just when I was reasonably happy about moments like "Amazons, defend!" and Babs saving herself in Red Robin. I should have kno-own.

I mean, I know that DC is not primarily composed of assholes. But it would be nice if they could stop letting the assholes represent them.

Yes, it'd be great if they'd let their few shining beacons of not-fucking-up speak for them every now and then. I can't decide if it's worse than what's-his-name who used to do all the public representation or not.

wow.

How do people like that remain gainfully employed and that aside - why as an executive would you LET HIME OUT IN PUBLIC much less speak.

It's like, I can't decide: Is this actually worse than the sort of shit DiDio came out with on a regular basis? POSSIBLY.
