Time Magazine critics pick the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the presentI really find the list...odd. Also interesting. And not just because I've read slightly less than half of them. I'm pretty shocked that they put Never Let Me Go rather than Remains of the Day myself. I haven't read Remains of the Day, but I was not terribly impressed with Never Let Me Go.

Remains of the Day is to me, one of the best novels of this century. It's just poignant and emotional and the use of language is outstanding. I started reading Never Let Me Go and just couldn't get into it. The way Ishiguro uses language is exquisite, but his style didn't seem to work for the whole dystopia/horror/conspiracy theme.

Hey, girl...how you been? I haven't heard from you in a while. I finally got around to glancing at your journal and the truth is, I only got this far. (I'm working from most recent backwards) My life is hell. But, I took a look at the list and I am very surprisingly disappointed. Not at the list, mind you, but at myself. Of the first page, I've only read probably about four or five of 'em. I'm too depressed to look at the rest of them.

And here I thought getting my BA in English introduced me to a lot of books.
