Landcomms can be a lot of fun :D I'm only in Legendland right now although I did get nostalgic for Whedonland recently. It's a great way to push your own boundaries in learning about graphics etc.

I have to admit I'm a little nervous that I won't be able to keep up.

Are there any good tutorials for a noob to get started with the graphics?

There might be tutorials on your Team Comm. Lannister has a list of resources and tutorials and tools.

Try www.pixlr.com. I've been using it lately when I'm on my laptop, because I only have photoshop on my desktop. It's worked pretty well, if not as well as a purchased program. You can also find pixlr tutorials pretty easily on the web and on youtube.

Thanks! I'll check it out tonight.

It's not as if I have a trial tomorrow or anything like that

I just checked - no such list at Team Stark. They all seem to be friends over there so don't know why all the teams wouldn't have the same list.

Oh well. I don't know then. I guess the Teams are all run by different leaders, so they all have different stuff. I've never been on a land comm team that didn't have a help post though, so. IDEK.

ANYWAY, this is what I was being all mysterious about. I made you a couple of sigtags to get you started on your first land comm. :3

This http://www.dreamvision-entertainment.com/dvw/tutorials/blendtut.html is a great intro to blending.
I've got lots of icon textures and stuff in my resources post - download a few textures to play around with, find the styles you like and build up a small library.

http://photoshoptutorials.ws/ is something I've got bookmarked from way back when.

from Team Cara's list of useful links:
http://psd.tutsplus.com/
http://icon-tutorial.livejournal.com/
http://users.livejournal.com/__iiconize__/14223.html
http://community.livejournal.com/weapon_icons/48090.html

Your team may well have a resource post of screencaps, quotes, tutorials etc :D

Lisa - I don't have photoshop, so don't know if those tutorials would do me any good.

The only editing tool I've ever used is the one at photobucket, and I'm not very good at that one.

Yes, the Photobucket one is a bit temperamental. There's pixlr but that always crashes for me, but my pc and OS are not the best, so you might have more luck; it is very much like photoshop.

Here's a few links that I can't say how good the progs are but might be worth a look:

http://www.howtoplaza.com/edit-images-photoshop Editing images without Photoshop link

http://thelittlehenhouse.com/2011/09/29/how-to-make-graphics-without-using-photoshop/ all about picnik

http://www.online-image-editor.com/ image editor online

just search for 'icon' or 'photo editing' or 'image editing' or 'graphics' and include '- photoshop' for more ideas :D

Thanks!

Pris gave me a 2 hour tutorial on Pixlr last night. It seems to work OK so far on my computer.

I'll look at the links you've provided. I have been googling like crazy, and am finding some stuff.

Two hours, lol :D You're really working hard at this. I'm so glad it works for you, because it's so like Photoshop that most tutorials should be useable and if you do ever acquire PS later it will be 'old hat' to you :D Honestly, though, like most things, you learn best by doing once you've got your head around the basics. Making wallpapers and icons will be how you learn and develop your skills :D

She learned really fast! And it was kind of fun to see how amazed she was at layers!

Alas, I think my own graphic making skills will seem far less mysterious to Bex now. :P

I wish someone had taught me about layer masks earlier. That was one of those OOOH-AWWH moments.
