I think the author really gives some good insight as to how the West managed to fuck things up further when it got involved. If the West wants to try to fix things in there, we need to actually do it right, or we just make things worse. The author's take struck me as realistic.

This is a lesson I think the West would do well to take anywhere in the world it wants to get involved. It seems to me that even situations that seem incredibly simple to us are hiding all sorts of cultural, historical, economic and geographical (and and and) complexities.
