It's also making me re-think another one I was suspicious about, a chatty "lady" in "financial services" who claims to have had her "time wasted" several times by people who "weren't serious flatmates" and made her come down from Glasgow and then weren't financially secure to take the flat.
I mailed her this morning that I can get my flatmate to tell her I've been paying rent dependably for two and a half years, but can't guarantee I'll be interested in taking any room before I see it. Haven't heard back, but obviously if I do and there's any whisper of anything to do with money before the actual viewing then I'll know, heya, once again, BIG SCAM.
And if you're not prepared to have your "time wasted," you shouldn't be starting the process of looking for a new flatmate, because you're going to be having a lot more people than the one you choose looking at your place!
SRSLY. There's a lot of this crap on ads for rooms available. "No time-wasters please." The market is good -- people renting out rooms will find someone for their damn rooms. If a prospective renter looks at rooms they can't afford, it's only their own time they're wasting.
Anyone who asks you for money before you're actually given the room and get the contract is a scam.
Besides, they want you to scan the receipt to them in their e-mail which they can probably use to pretend to be you and get the cash - that one is an out and out scam!
o_O Gosh. One really learns something new everyday. Good to know. Maybe it'll be like that here one day, too, when I am in the situation to look for a flat or room.
Scam. I have an instant dislike for poor grammar, spelling and punctuation. Whoever sent that is probabyl only after the transfer charge they mentioned.
