I'm sure this is a stupid question, but what part of Alabama does Sil live in? Is everything OK where she is? Sudden worry... there's been little to no coverage of how Alabama is affected, but it keeps being mentioned.

A quick google search seemed to suggest she lives in & around Birmingham. I'm sure there are quite a few pensieve/cinescapey people who actually have her address, no? Further, news stories have described Birmingham as a place evacuees are going to... plus there's this story:

I'm sure she's fine, Bron. But still... I'm looking forward to her next post.

Ah, yes! I KNEW I had seen Sil posting somewhere saying she was okay... to "reveal" one of my many lurking spots....

I know you're in cinescape-exile, B, so that must be the reason why you didn't see this.

Yes, Silly is in Birmingham, and at last check she was doing fine, and volunteering to help the evacuees.

Yup, Birmingham and the areas around there only had minor damage, I think, mainly from the tornadoes and such that were spawned from the hurricane. But Silly's doing fine. :)

The New Orleans area, much of Mississippi and southern Alabama received the worst of the storm, had the most damage, and the majority of the deaths.

A friend of mine is studying in Geneva right now and all that she's heard about the incident is what she's heard online; it's nowhere in the local news. It's pretty bad over in the south, looting, tsunami-like damage, and a cesspool that is now New Orleans. Tragic. :(

Thanks everyone. I knew Sillie wouldn't be in danger or displaced but did wonder about power or water disruptions. Thankfully it seems she hasn't even had that. Volunteering to help evacuees... of course she is!

*waves* Here I am! Thank you for worrying Ook! I'm okay though. We came through incredibly fortunate. I didn't lose power though many of our friends here did (in fact all of them other than neighbors). Lots of trees down in our complex and they just finished clearing downed power lines from M1's school yesterday. My mom lost power for a couple of days and phone service and we had a small fire on some family property (only loss was trees). My sister's house in Mobile came through fairly okay- water damage and trees down, tiny bit of structural damage. It was scary though, far worse than the others we've had in terms of wind ( ... )
