Planning For The Long Term

Jan 28, 2021 12:58

The Prime Minister made an Announcement yesterday, covering things like the number of people who have died  from Covid in the UK, when Lockdown might be ended, when schools might reopen, and apologising for having mishandled the whole thing.  After all, we passed 100,000 covid-related deaths earlier this week.

What He Actually Said . . . )

lockdown, nhs, schools, lockdown restrictions, covid-19, news

We had yet another announcement from our government yesterday. Instead of putting the whole country under lockdown again, the borders are now mostly closed, and the gigantic commercial centers are closed. Also, there will be less people allowed (theoretically) in smaller supermarkets (yeah right). And companies are encouraged to promote working from home...
There are days I feel like with these half measures we'll never get out of this whole mess.. Think/ Act like Australia !!

Sounds like your politicians are almost as half-hearted about this as ours were last year. Not sure about this year, yet.

& yes, Oz & NZ did take it seriously, shut down completely, and now look at how they are. and their death tolls!

I mean, fifth highest death toll in the world? Is that something to be proud of?

R and I did talk about it and I said very early on that I wouldn't be surprised if the girl didn't go back to school before next September.

Yes, it would be hard for us and for her and yes, it's far from ideal but it beats having more people die or need hospitalisation. I've heard so many parents complain about it, and I get it, but it's not that hard to see that it's the best that can be done right now. Those who just can't bear to be with their own children because they're beastly little brats (when they're under 11) get very little sympathy from me. Unless we're talking about something pathological/medical (in the broad sense of the word), those kids are just the way they've been brought up.

Zactly!

You'd have thought that having to try to Home School, people might actually have some appreciation of what Teachers do all day (&, according to some teacher friends, all night, all weekend, etc!)

But then, sympathy, let alone empathy, seems to be in pretty short supply in what are still, alas, "me first" days.

That and your Girl has two committed, educated parents. So many don't.

Maybe one of the 'evils' of a State like ours is that it can develop 'Dependency', rather than encouraging people to think, do things, for themselves.

Mind you, I reckon one of the last things the present (and several previous) Government wants people to do is start thinking for themselves. Lest we think something along the lines,
"What do they think they are doing? I wouldn't put this self-serving, cronyistic, politically myopic lot in charge of a rice pudding. Let alone a country."

Trouble is any form of credible Opposition has been conspicuous by it's absence for years, and has yet to emerge! And yes, I do pray for those in Government ( ... )

“Bronchitikat will no longer be blogging.

She and H moved home in March, she now has a GARDEN, which is taking up her time. Thus she is getting healthful exercise out in the fresh air, rather than sitting indoors in front of a screen! They are settling in well, and hope to have most of the BOXES unpacked, once the major Spring sowing and planting season is over.

It’s been fun. She’s met some lovely people, whom she’d like to continue knowing in Real Life - if you would like to too.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Thanks to Anne-Laure for posting this for me.

God bless you all,

Bronchitikat”
