Things in space - the  Perseid meteor shower has begun.  Ah, memories of holidays on the Isle of Wight.  We'd often caravan and the night sky above whichever caravan site was usually darker than we'd get at home, what with all the streetlights etc.  So even though the children were quite young, we'd sit out somewhere dark and watch the 'shooting ( Read more... )

There were a lot of clouds the previous couple of nights, and a huge storm last night. Maybe I'll be luckier in August?

Was there much flooding as a result of the storm?

If you don't get to see the Perseids I think there's another shower nearer the end of August - maybe that's the one we used to watch?

Nope there wasn't. There was a very frightened german shepherd that woke me up though...

oh wow, that is some photo! It does look tropical, although no doubt a sweater is needed. I haven't been to the Isle of Wight, but one day- perhaps when the kiddies are a little bit older!

We started going there when S was three (& I was 'carrying' D). It was a nice short trip to somewhere totally different to where we live and the buses ran on time and frequently.

Ideal for us, as non car-owners, specially when we had two small children.

We continued visiting the Island 'til S was 18 and D totally Fed Up with the place. Then we tried further afield - that turned out to be similar, but with a much longer train trip to get there and back.
