Gaywatch: XMen: First Class (2011)

For this one I actually did only watch it because I'd seen some of the Charles/Erik stuff out there. After all, such stuff was inevitable when you have James McAvoy and Michael Freaking Fassbender playing Charles and Erik. Seriously now:

*snicker*

It was essentially "Eric I love you, I've felt your pain, your anguish and I've loved you since the moment I first saw you in the cold waters of (wherever the fuck they were) trying to lift a submarine with your magnetic powers"

"But Charles. Nazis."

"But Eric I love you."

"BUT NAZIS."

That's what I took away from it. Of course, I went in with zero expectations, because the idea of doing something as EPIC as a young Charles and Eric meeting and becoming friends...hollywood will find a way to fuck it up.

AND YES YES YES on the wrong casting for Mystique. She was like this...odd little duck that was just there and you didn't know why and you keep shooting it glances out of the corner of your eye wondering WHY it's there ( ... )

This amuses me far too much xD I won't lie and say that I've seen every since review for First Class out there, but I've read a decent few, and I have to say that thus far very few seem to agree that something was off about the movie. You saw it was too guick, others complained that it dragged. I agree with you when you say that it should focus more on the Erik/Charles dynamic, while I've heard several reviewers complain about how the movie focused on them too much and not enough on everything else. [This isn't really relevant here, but still amusing to me ( ... )

After I saw this movie the first time, I knew you were going to end up reviewing it. And as much as I want to disagree with you on some points, I won't, because First Class is definitely one of those movies where everyone comes away having seen something different ( ... )

I've heard of that bit, but I have yet to find the actual clip. I'll poke Tumblr and see what happens. XD

^_^ I knew there was a reason behind why I think you're a fantastic person. I bow to your great internet skills.

Okay, but seriously, I have to ask -- when Erik was cradling Charles on the beach, did you squee? Because I squeed. I squeed hard.

Sorry to bust on into your journal but I saw First Class in the title and I was on it like a cat on catnip :p

I agree with half your points on this film; i.e. the editing was iffy, casting could have been better, Mystique's storyline was woefully underdeveloped and it felt like they cut out about 20mins to fit a shorter time. And I know there are deleted scenes that fill out the movie more, [including the infamous cross-dressing scene].

All that been said I love this film a ridiculous amount [nearly as much as X-2 I suppose] and am totally in love with this paring.

Burst in anytime! All are welcome here. =)

I'll be curious to see the deleted scenes. And by that I mean anything with more Erik/Charles. Mmph.

Have you heard about the crossdressing scene? The cast has mentioned it in a few interviews. Basically its a continueation on the scene in the strip club, Charles shows off his telepathy by projecting the image of Erik in drag to Angel.

I can't even imagine why they would cut that out, it's obviously essential to the plot.

They inspire each other, push each other, debate with each other, and play chess together (not unlike another sci-fi slash pairing I know).

This line killed.
